On June 13th and 14th, the DISCOVER Project achieved a significant milestone with its second in-person meeting hosted by AGENA in Giulianova, Teramo province, Italy. This gathering brought together key partners from across Europe to discuss and strategize the development and implementation of a comprehensive manual for Energy Communities (CEPs).
The DISCOVER Project aims to address common challenges faced by energy community initiatives, including legal complexities, administrative hurdles, financial constraints, and organizational issues. In the context of the Clean Energy for all Europeans Package, which emphasizes community-led energy solutions, DISCOVER positions itself to play a pivotal role in promoting energy communities in Italy and throughout Europe.
During the meeting, participants engaged in various sessions dedicated to enhancing support schemes, sharing experiences with similar projects, and refining the general manual for CEPs. Practical steps were outlined to convert existing informational tools into actionable services within the manual, aimed at ensuring effective dissemination and successful implementation of CEPs in pilot regions.
The agenda featured intensive workshops and presentations, including sessions on monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), stakeholder engagement strategies, and documentation protocols. This structured approach underscores DISCOVER's commitment not only to developing tailored resources but also to establishing four Service Centers in Pilot Regions. These centers will serve as local hubs providing essential consultancy, training, and technical support for the sustainable growth of energy communities.
Looking ahead, the project has scheduled its next meeting for February 2025 in Paris, highlighting its commitment to ongoing collaboration and progress monitoring. Through continuous evaluation of project outcomes against predefined KPIs, DISCOVER aims to refine and enhance support mechanisms that facilitate active participation of local authorities in energy transition initiatives, with a strong focus on empowering Energy Communities.
The Giulianova meeting concluded with a clear path forward, highlighting the dedication of all partners involved in shaping the future of sustainable energy communities in Europe through the DISCOVER Project.
