What is a Positive Energy District (PED)?
The concept of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) has taken center stage in urban strategies for a clean and decentralized energy system, combining technological and social innovation and offering a holistic approach to sustainable urban regeneration. A Positive Energy District is envisioned as an energy self-sufficient urban neighborhood with net-zero CO₂ emissions.
The DUT (Driving Urban Transitions) PED Conference, held in Milan on October 2, 2025, showcased the results and best practices of projects from across Europe. The event brought together key stakeholders to promote the replication and integration of the PED concept as a crucial element for a climate-neutral, inclusive, and decarbonized Europe. The conference was aimed at PED experts such as researchers and professionals, individuals involved in research and innovation projects, and representatives of European cities. It facilitated connections between PED professionals and European experts in energy, housing, and urban planning.
